TRAVELLING LIGHT was purchased by the Hollywood Syndicate at the 2018 National Yearling Sale. This filly is sired by Gimmethegreenlight, out of the dam Tina’s Trip (Trippi), and was bred by Drakenstein Stud.
Name: TRAVELLING LIGHT
Sex: Bay Filly
Sire: Gimmethegreenlight (Aus)
Mare: Tina’s Trip (Trippi (USA))
Breeder: Varsfontein Stud.
Trainer: Garth Puller
Purchased: National Yearling Sale, April 2018
Pedigree: View here
She is a filly by Gimmethegreenlight who incidentally sired the Daily News 2000 champion, Surcharge.
She is from the same family that produced the likes of Captain Al, Thunder Dance, Battlestar Express, Shadow Dancing etc. So she has a proper family tree.
She was an easy purchase at the National Yearling sale, being one of the first fillies I looked at with Glen Kotzen who was eager to have a second look at her.
I was particularly impressed with her demeanor and specifically with the way she walked. She is extremely well conformed and this is backed up in by an impressive pedigree.
She has settled well into her new environment and although she still has a bit of growing to do, she is a very racy looking filly and is filling out nicely.
Travelling Light was sold on behalf of the Berg Thoroughbred Co Op, which comprises of seven grooms, who had purchased, raised and prepared the weanling. Read more here!

Raced over 1000m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. Garth Puller post-race comment: She was disappointing today, but it could have been the soft going and Serino Moodley said that she didn’t like it at all.

Raced over 1200m at Hollywoodbets Greyville on the turf. Anthony Delpech post-race comment: It was a very disappointing run. She never went down to the start very sound and I am sure that could be the reason for her poor run.
August 21st, 2021
She notched up her third career victory at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. She showed good speed and kept finding all the way to the line under a confident ride by Winning Form-sponsored jockey, Jabu Jacobs. Thank you to Hollywoodbets-sponsored trainer Garth Puller and well done to the breeders Varsfontein Stud. See the replay here.

She did not disgrace herself this afternoon over 1100m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. She showed some good speed and before getting outrun in the latter stages. She has dropped to a competitive rating and it should not be long until she is back in the winner’s enclosure. See the replay here.

Travelling Light is back from a short stint on the farm, when she lines up in race 2 at Hollywoodbets Greyville tomorrow. Trainer, Garth Puller, has stated that she is moving better than ever, so we’ll be expecting a decent run from this filly, although she may not be ready to win just yet.
August 21st, 2019
Travelling Light does the business and shows her worth in the 2nd race at Hollywoodbets Greyville today, showing plenty of guts to bounce a small but quality field of fillies and mares. This takes her record to two wins from four starts. Well done to Serino Moodley for a perfect ride and many thanks and congratulations to trainer Garth Puller. Finally, well done to breeders Varsfontein Stud. She will now have a well deserved rest, before she comes back for a summer campaign.

She has her fourth official start this Wednesday 21st August 2019, at the Hollywoodbets Greyville Polytrack. After that encouraging run on handicap debut last time, where she took another bump at the start and proceeded to race wide, she lands a slightly improved draw today. We believe this filly is well above average and from a handy position, if anything moves up to her in the latter stages, she should be classy enough to shake them off. We were going to give her a short break after that latest effort, but she is so well in herself, that it made sense to take advantage of her well-being here and we give her a good win chance. Good run by this smart Gimmethegreenlight filly today, on her handicap debut against older horses. She held her own, having taken another nasty bump at the start, but was just outrun in the dying stages. One for the notebook as she promises to have a very exciting three-year-old career. See replay below:

Travelling Light steps up for her biggest test to date on Saturday 25th May 2019, in the Gr1 Alan Robertson.
We have always had high hopes for this filly as she has shown so much ability in her work at home. Her debut winning time was the third fastest ever, by a Juvenile at Scottsville – just 1 second slower than the course and distance record which was set by a much older horse (Sommerlied). She has taken the run well and she now steps up to the 1200m in Grade 1 company, for the R750 000 – Gr1 Alan Robertson. Every owner of a two year old filly wants to win this, so to have a runner in the race is telling. She is fast and she is definitely not out of her league in this company, we give her a nice each way chance. See the final field here:

Travelling Light does what we expected and trounced the opposition on debut. She is certainly above average and is one to follow. Well done to Garth Puller and the team for getting her to this stage and congrats to Serino Moodley for a solid ride.

She has really progressed the way we were hoping she would. She isn’t a big filly, but what she lacks in size she makes up for with class and intelligence. She has been nominated for her debut run this Sunday 12th May 2019 and she is expected to go very close to winning. The signs are there, that she is certainly above average. Final field below.

We have made the decision to move Travelling Light to Durban, before her career starts. This was a strategic decision that falls in line with what we are looking to achieve with our horses. KZN has always been a happy hunting ground for the syndicate and we are looking forward to seeing this filly at either Greyville or Scottsville in future.

As young fillies go, if we keep buying fillies that look like this smart looker it will only be a matter of time before we “strike gold”. She has really turned into a sight to behold and she should run early.
Up until now, she has really taken it all in her stride. So much so, that she was one of the first to leave the spelling farm and she has joined up with Glen Kotzen at his world class establishment in Paarl (Western Cape).
She is a very racy filly with a strong pedigree to back up her claims. We look forward to seeing her line up at the 1000m/1200m at Kenilworth, in the months to come.
