UPDATES – Purple Powahouse

December 14th, 2020
Purple Powahouse lands his 3rd career victory in what was a red-letter day for the Hollywood Syndicate. It took a brilliant ride by Lyle Hewitson under testing circumstances, but he pulled off a fantastic win. Well done to Alyson Wright and breeders Drakenstein Stud. See the replay here.

November 30th, 2020
It was a solid effort by this consistent son of What A Winter today. He went down a short head in 2nd, beaten by his full brother and Hollywood Syndicate owned Spydas Corner. See the replay here.

October 7th, 2020
Purple Powahouse makes it a double for the Hollywood Syndicate, when winning the 8th and final race on the programme at Hollywoodbets Greyville this afternoon. He is certainly becoming a progressive handicapper. Well done to Lyle Hewitson for a well judged ride, Alyson Wright and breeders Drakenstein Stud. See the replay here.

He breaks the maidens at the 6th time of asking under a commanding ride by Lyle Hewitson. Well done to the Alyson Wright stable and breeders Drakenstein Stud. By What A Winter, he looks destined to pick up a few more wins over the course of his career.

October 17th, 2019
A few unfortunate events rendered his debut run a missed opportunity and he is without doubt far better than what he displayed. Having dropped the jockey upon exiting the chute, he bolted to start riderless and that would’ve taken a lot out of him prior to the race. He was surprisingly declared fit to race and after being fractious in the stalls, he was chased up to lead and that turned out to be a regrettable decision by the rider. Predictably, he faded out over the final 150m and has since thrown a bit of a temperature. With the above in mind, it’s fair to say that he deserves a line through that run.

October 14th, 2019
D-Day has almost arrived for this son of What A Winter. He will be having his debut this Wednesday 16th October, on the Hollywoodbets Greyville Polytrack. Over the trip of 1200m, we expect him to need the run and he may show signs of greenness. With that said, it will be a great learning curve for him and on his ability alone, he should finish in the first four. See the final field here:

Purple Powahouse had a grass gallop this morning, in preparation for his debut run which is imminent. Here he is seen on the far side, doing his work with another son of What A Winter – in the form of Agent Murphy.

August 30th, 2019
Given his new name by the Hollywoodbets Marketing team, it was great to have the team join us for a visit to Summerveld Training Centre this morning. The team were able to see this son of What A Winter up close and watch him work. He clearly enjoyed the attention and behaved like an absolute gentleman around the team. We are looking forward to his debut in a few weeks, where he is sure to have a big following on course.

May 10th, 2019
He has shown a lot of promise in his prep so far. He ran 2nd in his barrier trial a few weeks ago and went a little shin-sore thereafter, but shook that off within a few days. He is coming along very nicely and we expect him to progress quickly after his debut. See a replay of that Barrier Trial below.

November 29th, 2018
He has done very well during the spring and has matured into the young two year old colt we were hoping for. He had a grass gallop this morning and went about his business nice and relaxed (see clip below). He is on the grass, the horse closest to the camera.

Another smart young What a Winter colt, he is slightly immature in comparison to Agent Murphy but what he lacks in size he makes up for in the way he moves. He won’t be small, he is just taking more time.

At this stage of his track work, he hasn’t been paired up with a companion to work alongside him as he has a very competitive nature.

He is a great mover however and once he learns to settle he will be a nice horse.
