The Hollywood Syndicate has two horses that will take to the track for the first time with the running of barrier trials on Wednesday the 30th May 2018 at Greyville. The colt Uncle Charlie, trained by Garth Puller, will run in the 10th race, and the Duncan Howells-trained filly Mocha Rose will run in the 11th race. Learn more about these two-year-olds below.
BARRIER TRIALS – 30th May 2018
Race 10 – 10:40 – 1000m – Barrier Trial
No 12 – Uncle Charlie
Trainer: Garth Puller
Jockey: Athandiwe Mgudlwa
Draw 11 (12) – Weight 57kg
Garth Puller: “He is yet to see the race course so this will be a major learning curve for the son or Curve Ball.
He is a very nice colt who has made an impressive recovery after suffering a freak accident back in January this year. Luckily enough, the deep wound he suffered after colliding with a protruding fence post has healed very well, without any long term affects.
He won’t be asked to over-extend himself tomorrow as this will just be used to give him the racing experience.
The run will no doubt bring him a lot.”

Race 11 – 11:10 – 1000m – Barrier Trial
No 10 – Mocha Rose
Trainer: Duncan Howells
Jockey: Khanya Sakayi*
Draw 9 (11) – Weight 56* (-4.0kg)
James Everett: “Mocha Rose is a very exciting filly, from the same family that produced Mocha Java and Hunting Tower, to name a few.”
She was set back earlier this year by a virus which resulted in Duncan having to back off her for a few weeks. As such, she has taken a little longer than expected but we are very excited to see her work out tomorrow.
This run will also bring her on and do her the world of good as far experience is concerned.”
