11/01 – KINGS ROAD

January 29, 2022
The Hollywood Syndicate had their first ever runner in the Grade 1 World Sports Betting Cape Town Met with the Sean Tarry-trained CIRILLO lining up in the star-studded field. Cirillo finished 9th of the 11 runners, just under 7 lengths off the winner Kommetdieding. The Hollywood Syndicate congratulates trainers Harold Crawford and Michelle Rix, jockey Gavin Lerena, and owner Ashwin Reynolds. Some pictures below of Cirillo from Saturday.

Race comments from Anthony Delpech:
Race 9 – Cirillo – He did not disgrace himself, finishing 7 lengths behind, and this is definitely not his preferred distance.
Race 12 – Mounia – A good run. She was a bit unlucky as she had to switch for a run at the 200m mark where it could have cost her finishing much closer .

Hollywoodbets Scottsville – Race Comments

Race 6 – Imbejeje –  She missed the break slightly and was always chasing. Jockey Khumalo said that she needs the 1400m so she can relax, and just be off the pace. She will then give you a kick.

Race 7 – Spydas Corner – Kegan De Melo said the false start affected him. When he came out the second time he never showed the same speed, and Keagan feels he is much better than that performance.

Race 8 – Thunder Masala – Good run. He is still carrying a lot of condition so there is more improvement to come and he will be better over more ground. Jockey Godden said that he is still a big baby in the race and will improve a lot with the run.

Race 8 – Mbanjwa Magic – He has gone backwards with every run and does not want to race. We have decided to retire him.

The Hollywood Syndicate are proud to announce that the Sean Tarry trained CIRILLO will take his place in the WSB Cape Town Met! He will be partnered by jockey Craig Zackey. This is the first runner for the Hollywood Syndicate in this prestigious Grade 1.

Today was a tragic day for the Hollywood Syndicate, as we said goodbye to Khuluma Nathi. The beautiful bay gelding ran at Hollywoodbets Greyville today in the first race, and was leading comfortably under a controlled ride by jockey S’manga Khumalo. However, as they entered the turn, an unfortunate misstep caused the horse to shatter his near fore sesamoid. His injury was immediately assessed by the on course veterinary surgeon, and unfortunately there was no other option but to humanely euthanise him.

We as the Hollywood Syndicate are devastated and heartbroken. Khuluma Nathi had such a wonderful temperament, and a gentle soul. We share our sympathies with the horse’s trainer Dean Kannemeyer, his assistant Nicolette Roscoe, his groom Luvanda Mantimfa, jockey S’manga Khumalo and his breeder Hemel ‘n Aarde Stud. We also share our sympathies with the East Coast Radio team who named him Khuluma Nathi, and showed such amazing love and support to the horse on the Darren, Keri and Sky Breakfast Show. He will be sorely missed.

“The love of a horse knows not its own depth until the hour of separation.”

Hollywoodbets Greyville Polytrack – Post-Race Comments

Race 1 – Purple Operator – Got into a good position from a poor draw, but was interfered badly at the top of the straight by Khuluma Nathi. He would have finished much closer if not interfered.
Race 1 – Khuluma Nathi – Shattered his near fore sesamoid and had to be euthanised.
Race 8 – Arctic Princess – Jockey Donovan Dillon said that she needs a bit further. She stayed on well to finish 4th.
Race 8 – Not Now Pussycat – She-was caught wide throughout the race, so I think we can forgive her for the poor run.

Vaal Classic – Post-race Comments

Race 7 – Kings Road – Very good win. Showed lots of speed and kicked away from them.
Race 8 – Goliath Heron – Good win! He had dropped to a ratting where he could win. He can now follow up on that run if not punished in the ratings.
Race 8 – Phinda Mzala – His saddle slipped coming out of the starting stall. He is much better than this run.
Race 8 – Shinnecock – Needed the run and will be a fitter horse next time.

Fairview Polytrack – Post-race comments

Race 6 – Zig Zag – Raced very close to the pace, which I believe is not where he prefers to race. He was squeezed the last 100m but felt he had enough by that stage, and I don’t feel he could have finished much closer.

Hollywoodbets Greyville Polytrack – Comments

Race 2 – Phaka Imali – Over raced in the early part of the race. Trainer Gary Rich said that he will remove the blinkers for his next outing.
Race 7 – Spydas Corner – The 1000m is getting to short for him. Duncan Howells said that he is running in a 1200m race at PMB in 2 weeks time. But he still ran a great race.
