Upcoming Mid-Week Runners: Flamingo Park – Monday 20th January 2020 and Vaal Turf – Thursday 23rd January 2020

We have a number of runners stepping out for the Hollywood Syndicate this week and all of them are going to need to show some improvement. Kicking off with two runners in the first race at Flamingo Park on Monday 20th January 2020, before we turn our attentions to the Vaal Turf course on Thursday 23rd January 2020. See more about what we expect here.

Monday 20th January 2020
Flamingo Park

Race 1 – 12:40
1000m – Maiden Plate

6 – Pay The Punters
Trainer: Cliffie Miller
Jockey: Collen Storey
Wgt: 60.0kg
Draw: 5 (13 Runners)
Current Betting: 16/1

After three poor runs in KZN, we have opted to send him up to have a go on the Flamingo Park sand. He has settled in nicely and according the stable, his work has been fairly decent. This will however be more of an educational outing for us, to see how he handles the change in surface. As such, we have started from scratch with him and reverted to the 1000m straight course. He is drawn well and on what he has shown at work, we’ll be looking to see him finish in the top half.

Winning Comment: Three poor runs. Makes local/stable debut and can improve if suited to the sand.

11 – Listen To Lilly
Trainer: Cliffie Miller
Jockey: Marco van Rensburg
Wgt: 57.5kg
Draw: 13 (13 Runners)
Current Betting: 20/1

She is far better than her last start, when fading out after showing plenty of early speed. Marco van Rensburg regains the mount and he’ll be expected to ride her a little more patiently this time, in order to leave more ‘in the tank’ for the final furlong. She has been working well in the week leading up to this run and we expect her to finish in the first 5 or 6 places.

Winning Form Comment: Is held by number 12 on latest. Has a place chance on penultimate.

Thursday 23rd January 2020
Vaal Turf

Race 1 – 12:40
1000m – Workriders Maiden Plate

1 – Jozi Hustle
Trainer: Clinton Binda
Jockey: Edmore Chingwende
Wgt: 60.0kg
Draw: 1 (10 Runners)
Predicted Betting: 10/1

He is the type of horse that shows plenty of speed and may just pop up and win at any stage in the near future. After a disappointing effort last time, he returns to the same course and distance for this Workriders race day and if showing the speed he has displayed in both of his previous two starts, we are expecting him to finish in the first five with a small place chance. With that said, he is held by the stable companion Kings Road.

Winning Form Comment: Is held by number 3 on moderate latest. Shows speed. Can place in this field.

3 – Kings Road
Trainer: Clinton Binda
Jockey: Chamu Mabaya
Wgt: 60.0kg
Draw: 4 (10 Runners)
Predicted Betting: 10/1

He is starting to show signs of going into intention, as he strengthens up after each outing. The son of Vercingetorix stayed on relatively well in his last start and as with the stable companion above, he returns to the same course and distance where he will be expected to make further progression. He gets the services of talented workrider Chamu Mabaya, who is no stranger to the winners’ enclosure when it comes to these Workriders race days and with the expected improvement he has a useful place chance.

Winning Form Comment: Fair latest when showing speed. Decent workrider in the saddle. Can feature in this field.

Race 2 – 13:15
1000m – Workriders Maiden Plate (Fillies)

17 – Happy Together
Trainer: Clinton Binda
Jockey: Reserve*
Wgt: 60.0kg
Draw: 1 (17 Runners)
Predicted Betting: 80/1

She has shown very little in her three starts so far and she will be expected to make big improvement if she is going to have any sort of career at this level. Her first hurdle will be to take her place at the start and for that to happen, there will need to be a withdrawal from one of the other carded runners. She is still very green and we’ll need to see more from her, if she is ever going to become a betting proposition.

Winning Form Comment: Poor form, others preferred.

Race 3 – 13:50
1200m – Workriders Maiden Plate

14 – Zig Zag
Trainer: Clinton Binda
Jockey: Edmore Chingwende
Wgt: 60.0kg
Draw: 9 (18 Runners)
Predicted Betting: 33/1

After another modest effort last Thursday, he lines up in a tough Workriders maiden plate for his fourth outing. He does have some scope for improvement, but we are getting to the stage where he will have to show us something soon, or we may have to consider his racing future. We’ll be hoping for some improvement here, but until then he cannot be tipped with any confidence.

Winning Form Comment: Carded to race 16.01.2020
