After an emphatic win by Anika The Angel at Hollywoodbets Scottsville earlier this week, we will be hoping our good fortunes continue into the weekend, where we have three runners stepping out for the Hollywood Syndicate. Kicking of with Phinda Mzala and Ramchandani Road in the 2nd Race at Turffontein on Saturday 27th June, we move to Hollywoodbets Greyville on Sunday 28th June, where Purple Powahouse (pictured as a yearling) looks set to go into contention once again.

He was well beaten last time out, when having his first run back after a 3-month absence. That was when finishing well behind a very smart looking winner, in the form of Al Muthana. The son of Philanthropist returns to the same course and distance and we’ll be looking for him to repeat his penultimate run when finishing 2nd over this 1160m trip. With some improvement, he can find the first four places.

He showed a fair amount of improvement last time out, when finishing 4th against older horses. That was just his second start and he should have plenty more improvement to come. Piere Strydom retains the ride which is always a promising sign and we’ll be looking to see him finish off his run this time around. He will be ridden a bit more patiently here, after showing plenty of early speed in that latest run and if all goes to plan he should have a useful place chance.

He gave a decent account of himself when finishing third over this course and distance last time out. That was at the beginning of June and the run would’ve sharpened him up nicely. The son of What A Winter now gets a set of blinkers fitted (card update), having produced some very promising recent workouts at home with the “scoops” on and that may just give him the required boost. He faces two promising looking 2-year olds in the form of Naval Secret (brother to All Is Secret) and Garrulous who would have benefitted from his debut 2nd, 15 days ago.
With that said Purple Powahouse is lightly raced, has plenty of scope and with the year advantage on the latter two contenders, he should be a factor here.
