This 3 year old gelding by freshman sire Coup De Grace has his first outing here and we will be hoping for a decent performance first up. He is still very immature and the experience should benefit him immensely.

A talented son of Pathfork, he has his first run since the middle of March this year. He is the type that likes to race fresh and with a solid course and distance record of two wins from his three outings he is more than capable of a big performance in a field such as this one. Calvin Habib takes the mount and if he manages to settle well in the early parts of his run, we expect to see him challenge strongly for the lion’s share of the prize money.

He hasn’t quite shaped up at handicap level since that solid post maiden performance three runs back in a Graduation Plate. With that said, the form line of his last start has produced 4 subsequent winners which is worth noting. He needed the run that day and with this being his second run after a rest, he should strip a lot fitter now. Apprentice Jeffrey Syster claims the 2.5kg off his back and he should have outside place credentials in this company.

He showed a decent amount of early speed in that comeback run in the middle of July and the run has brought him on quite a bit. That was his handicap debut and he should strip a much fitter horse now. Craig Bantam takes the mount this time and we’ll be hoping for an improved performance, but he will have to show more before he is tipped to the public.

He gave a useful account of himself last time out when having his handicap debut as well as his first run after a forced absence from racing. Having suffered a mouth injury during that run, he stayed on well in the closing stages and now gets the services of top jockey S’Manga Khumalo. The jockey engagement should suit him as he does appear to prefer being left alone for as long as possible in his races and if all goes to plan here he should have solid each way credentials.
