Hollywoodbets Greyville Polytrack

Race 4 – 14:20
2000m – Follow Gold Circle On Facebook Merit Rated 78 Handicap

14 – Mighty Smart
Trainer: Paul Lafferty
Jockey: Reserve Runner 2
Wgt: 52.0kg
Draw: *
Predicted Betting: 10/1

A second reserve runner in this instance, on the back of some useful form of late. The stable are very happy with where he is at this stage and off his current mark of  64, they are of the opinion that if he gets a run here he’ll just about win this.

Winning Form Comment: Best MR:82. Not far off the winner in last three outings. Should be competitive.

Race 5 – 14:55
1400m – Soccer Any15 Merit Rated 93 Handicap (F&M)

5 – Purple Persuasion
Trainer: Brett Crawford
Jockey: Jabu Jacobs (-2.0kg)
Wgt: 53.0kg
Draw: 5 (9 Runners)
Predicted Betting: 14/1

Apprentice Jabu Jacobs takes the ride, jumping from barrier 5. She has taken her gallop a few days back very well, and is looking fitter all the time. We expect to see a big improvement from this tough filly this week, although this is a very competitive handicap and we may just have to settle for minor money here.

Winning Form Comment: Ex Wright A J-2020.01.26. 2nd run after rest. Best MR:89. Needed comeback run badly, can improve.

8 – Travelling Light
Trainer: Garth Puller
Jockey: Lyle Hewitson
Wgt: 59.5kg
Draw: 8 (9 Runners)
Predicted Betting: 3/1

She has picked up a tricky draw in an open field, but we are confident that this 1400m is now what she is looking for. With some luck in running and Lyle Hewitson retaining the ride, she should have a useful chance of winning this.

Winning Form Comment: Best MR:99. Fair penultimate run over this distance. Back against her own sex, respect.

Race 6 – 15:30
1000m – www.trackandball.co.za Merit Rated 86 Handicap

1 – Phinda Mzala
Trainer: Clinton Binda
Jockey: Jeffrey Syster (-2.5kg)
Wgt: 54.0kg
Draw: 1 (9 Runners)
Predicted Betting: 2/1

He is clearly in a good place having notched up two wins in a row and vitally winning his handicap debut last time out. The stables’ only reservations are that it will be his first time on the Polytrack and the fact that the apprentice riding him is also new to this course. With that said, he lands a plum draw and if all goes to plan he should have a useful chance of winning this.

Winning Form Comment: Best MR:85. Solid record over 1000m. Can reel off the hat-trick.

3 – Purple Powahouse
Trainer: Alyson Wright
Jockey: Lyle Hewitson
Wgt: 52.5kg
Draw: 3 (9 Runners)
Predicted Betting: 2/1

He jumps in class and we feel that this is a competitive 1000m race for him, but if he breaks well and settles in a prominent early position he must have a good chance.

Winning Form Comment: Best MR:71. Won latest easier than the margin suggests. Runs well for Hewitson.

Race 7 – 16:05
1200m – Gold Circle Racing YouTube Merit Rated 78 Handicap

1 – Ralph The Rascal
Trainer: Alyson Wright
Jockey: Lyle Hewitson
Wgt: 59.5kg
Predicted Betting: 5/1

He has never been the type who shows a lot in his track work at home, but his grass gallop on the 13th October was very encouraging. Despite the 20 week absence from racing, the stable feel that they have done enough work to get him ready for this comeback and he shouldn’t need the run at all. The 1200m should be the right trip at the start of this campaign and he’s expected to be one of the leading contenders at the business end.

Winning Form Comment: Rested 20 wks. Best MR:81. Lightly raced with some decent form. Chance if fit and well.

Race 8 – 16:40
1200m – Hollywoodbets Bright Future Merit Rated 84 Hcp (F&M)

10 – Simply Russian
Trainer: Garth Puller
Jockey: Eric S Ngwane
Wgt: 55.0kg
Draw: 10 (12 Runners)
Predicted Betting: 33/1

The stable have been forced to reschool her after completely missing the jump in her last three attempts. She has since been through the stalls at home and at the races which seems to have done the trick. Eric Ngwane takes the mount this time, but she is attempting a trip that will be short of her best and she’ll more than likely need the run. With that said, her work at home has been good and this first run back should bring her on nicely.

Winning Form Comment: 2nd run after rest. Best MR:88. Has issues at the start. Can improve if jumping on terms.
