Just the two runners to follow this week, kicking off Spanish Fort (pictured) in the first race at Flamingo Park on Monday 24th June 2019. He returns as a gelding after leaving the maidens in his 4th start, last time out. Then on Thursday 27th June 2019, Seventh Son looks a threat in the 6th race at the Vaal Classic. See more here.

Monday 24 June 2019
Flamingo Park

Race 1 – 12:20
1300m – Juvenile Plate

5 – Spanish Fort
Trainer: Cliffie Miller
Jockey: Marco van Rensburg
Wgt: 58.0kg
Draw: 3(9)
Current Betting: 8/1

He is certainly travelling a lot better on the sand and it is great to see him start to live up to the expectations that we initially had for him. He has been gelded since leaving the maidens in that last start and he has been working well since. He has landed a very useful draw today and we are confident that he will enjoy the step up in trip to the 1300m. So much so that we expect him to be in the money today and we give him a nice place chance.

Winning Form Comment: Held by 2 on penultimate.

Thursday 27 June 2019
Vaal Classic

Race 6 – 15:00
1000m – MR 64 Handicap

11 – Seventh Son
Trainer: Clinton Binda
Jockey: Calvin Habib
Wgt: 54.5kg
Draw: 15(15)
Predicted Betting: 7/1

He has been in some decent form of late and is starting to look more and more of a threat, since dropping down in the ratings. Going on his last four outings, he will enjoy this drop in trip to the 1000m as he has been showing a lot of early speed. He had excuses in his last start, where an abnormal breathing noise was detected during the race and confirmed by the on course vet, directly after the run. That will not be a recurring issue and if repeating his penultimate run, he should go close. We give him a good place chance and an outside winning chance.

Winning Form Comment: Excuses last time. Include on penultimate run this trip.
