Upcoming Weekend Runners – Scottsville Racecourse – Saturday 25th May 2019

It’s the big one this weekend, as far as the speed merchants are concerned. We have two runners on the day and both should provide plenty of value for their followers. Anika The Angel steps up to the mile, a much stronger filly after her debut and Travelling Light (Pictured) goes for glory in the Gr1 Alan Robertson. See more about their chances here.

Saturday 25th May 2019
Scottsville Racecourse

Race 1 – 12:00
1600m – Juvenile Plate

3 – Anika The Angel
Trainer: Alyson Wright
Jockey: Lyle Hewitson
Wgt: 57.0kg
Draw: 2(7)
Current Betting: 13/2

She ran a respectable 5th on debut, but was nowhere near ready for it as the run was just being used to get her going. She is also bred for further, so when managing to stay on well in the closing stages of that run we were more than pleased. That was three months ago and she has certainly strengthened up nicely since then. She steps up to the mile today, from a useful draw in this small field and she is going to absolutely relish the extra 400m this time. Champion Jockey Lyle Hewitson partners up with her and she is definitely not in the race for the place money, she should be fighting it out for the winners cheque.

Winning Form Comment: Fair debut run and the form line has worked. Crying out for this trip.

Race 5 – 14:10
1200m – Gr1 Alan Robertson Championship (2 Year Old Fillies)

13 – Travelling Light
Trainer: Garth Puller
Jockey: Serino Moodley
Wgt: 60.0kg
Draw: 8(20)
Predicted Betting: 12/1

We have always had high hopes for this filly as she has shown so much ability in her work at home. Her debut winning time was the third fastest ever, by a Juvenile at Scottsville – just 1 second slower than the course and distance record which was set by a much older horse (Sommerlied). She has taken the run well and she now steps up to the 1200m in Grade 1 company, for the R750 000 Gr1 Alan Robertson. Every owner of a two year old filly wants to win this, so to have a runner in the race is telling. She is fast and she is definitely not out of her league in this company, we give her a nice each way chance.

Winning Form Comment: Impressive debut winner at this course, in a fast time.
