Upcoming Weekend Runners – Hollywood Syndicate: 13th – 15th December 2019

It’s another action packed weekend with 11 runners and a barrier trialist, all donning the Hollywood Syndicate silks, this weekend. We start off at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Friday night where racing fans will be hoping for a break in the weather, for the meeting to go ahead. With 7-runners representing the Syndicate on the night, we have lots to look forward to. On Saturday, Look To The Sky and Syx Shooter line up in the WSB Sophomore 1000 at Turffontein and both will be looking to make a big impression. At Kenilworth, Maitland Magic returns to the same course and distance where he was narrowly beaten on debut. Finally, we are back at Hollywoodbets Scottsville on Sunday, where Scoot Over Hogg has a barrier trial, before Agent Murphy looks to improve on his disappointing latest. See more here.

Friday 13th December 2019
Hollywoodbets Greyville

 Race 3 – 18:20
1700m – Novice Plate

12 – Mighty Smart
Trainer: Paul Lafferty
Jockey: Donovan Dillon
Wgt: 59.0kg
Draw: 12 (12 Runners)
Predicted Betting: 7/1

Back after his maiden victory in October, he lands a wide draw to overcome this time and that will make things a bit tougher. The blinkers did the trick last time and they will be fitted once again, for his first outing against winners. Donovan Dillon jumps back aboard, having ridden him in his penultimate start and he will be looking to find cover just off the early speed. There are a couple of contenders for first prize in the race, but this son of Archipenko has progressed very well since his last run and he won’t be too in need of this. The stable are happy with the way he is going and they are confident of another big run. The form line of that last outing has held up nicely with all of Twice Golden, Joseph Jagger and Great Guy subsequently coming out and winning. With a bit of luck from that draw, he will be right there at the finish and he gets an each-way chance.

Winning Form Comment: Finished strongly to win maiden last time. Form of that race has been franked.

Race 4 – 18:55
2000m – MR 77 Handicap

3 – Storm Ruler
Trainer: Alyson Wright
Jockey: Tristen Godden
Wgt: 57.0kg
Draw: 3 (11 Runners)
Predicted Betting: 14/1

He was in desperate need of his last run, after a 38 week absence from the course. Caught off the early pace in that run, he never managed to get into the race and he will be expected to make a fair amount of improvement this time. Tristen Godden takes the mount from a good draw and despite the fact that he will still be short of fitness, he should make an improved bid for the places. He is coming along well at home, but we are going to give him another run before he is tipped to the public.

Winning Form Comment: 2nd run after rest. Needed latest badly. Has a decent C&D record. Should strip fitter.

Race 6 – 20:10
1400m – MR 92 Handicap

4 – Uncle Charlie
Trainer: Garth Puller
Jockey: Khanya Sakayi (-4kg)
Wgt: 53.0kg
Draw: 4 (10 Runners)
Predicted Betting: 20/1

He has his peak run back after a rest and returns to the Turf course, after two good comeback runs over this trip, on the Poly. He has been coming along nicely at home and the stable feel that he will be cherry ripe for this outing. Apprentice jockey Khanya Sakayi jumps aboard, from a plum draw and the 1.5kg claim will certainly help. He is yet to miss the places in his two attempts at this course and he has won over the trip before. Despite the fact that he rises in class, he has the credentials to be considered and we expect him to finish in the first 4 places.

Winning Form Comment: 3rd run after a rest. Needed last two starts. Is yet to be unplaced on this course.

7 – White Cedar
Trainer: Alyson Wright
Jockey: Sean Veale
Wgt: 53.5kg
Draw: 7 (10 Runners)
Predicted Betting: 14/1

He gave a fair account of himself last time out, when making his post maiden debut after a 31 week rest. The outing would’ve brought him on nicely and he too will strip a fitter horse here, although he will still just need this run. The blinkers go back on again and despite the fact that he may not be ready to take on a field as strong as this, we expect him to finish in the first 6 places.

Winning Form Comment: 2nd run after a rest. Needed comeback run. Gets the headgear fitted and has scope.

8 – Binary Star
Trainer: Alyson Wright
Jockey: Ashton Arries
Wgt: 54.5kg
Draw: 8 (10 Runners)
Predicted Betting: 10/1

A smart winner last time out when going start to finish to land his maiden victory and he returns as a gelding now. He steps into stronger company now, but he is a horse with a lot of ability and it looks like the perfect opportunity for him to be tested by some useful opponents. He isn’t 100% tuned up for this run and gate 8 will present a few challenges for young Ashton Arries, but he is in a good place and we are expecting him to give a very good account of himself. Despite needing the run, he has a good place chance.

Winning Form Comment: Was impressive when winning maiden over this course and distance.

Race 7 – 20:45
1400m – MR 84 Handicap (F&M)

3 – Purple Persuasion
Trainer: Alyson Wright
Jockey: Thabiso Gumede (-4kg)
Wgt: 55.5kg
Draw: 3 (12 Runners)
Predicted Betting: 5/1

She has had a nice introduction back into racing, after returning from a 14 week lay-off and lines up for her peak run here. Drawn well, she gets the services of young apprentice jockey Thabiso Gumede, who claims the 4kg’s off her back. She steps up to the 1400m for the first time, but she is now ready for it and on her pedigree she will have no issues handling the extra ground. With just 51.5kg’s to shoulder, she has the credentials to go right into contention and we give her good each-way chance.

Winning Form Comment: Good form since having a 14 week break. Has a light mass and can go close.

12 – Purple Nkanyezi
Trainer: Garth Puller
Jockey: Ashton Arries
Wgt: 57.0kg
Draw: 12 (12 Runners)
Predicted Betting: 7/1

She has always been rated above average and despite being very green in her debut, she was an ultra-impressive winner. She has come on nicely since that run and now steps into handicap territory where the real test begins. Drawn widest of all, she will be looking for cover early on and that could make or break the outcome of her run. Ashton Arries takes the ride this time and if finding a bit of luck in running, she will be right there and we give her place chance.

Winning Form Comment: Won debut well when racing green. Would have come on from the run. Looks to have plenty of scope.

Saturday 14th December 2019
Turffontein Standside

Race 7 –15:55
1000m – WSB Sophomore 1000

3 – Look To The Sky
Trainer: Clinton Binda
Jockey: S’manga Khumalo
Wgt: 56.5kg
Draw: 5 (11 Runners)
Predicted Betting: 14/1

He was a smart winner last time out, when bumping a decent field of sprinters and the delay to the running of this race would’ve worked in his favour. That was his first run back after a rest and the run has brought him on nicely. With that said, he does line up against some decent opponents here and under difficult weight conditions. S’manga Khumalo retains the ride with the pacifiers remaining on and if putting his best foot forward, he could go into contention. We give him a reasonable place chance.

Winning Form Comment: Just held on to win latest when showing speed. Khumalo retains. Don’t ignore.

9 – Syx Shooter
Trainer: Clinton Binda
Jockey: Raymond Danielson
Wgt: 54.5kg
Draw: 10 (11 Runners)
Predicted Betting: 33/1

He was an emphatic winner at the 10th time of asking last time out, when returning from a 21 week rest. The run has done him the world of good and he has come on nicely from that outing. S’manga Khumalo rode him on that occasion, but he has opted to stick with the stable companion this time. Straight out of the maidens and into a minor feature against older horses, may be a tough ask. As such we are looking for him to give a good account of himself here, but a finish in the first 4 is unlikely.

Winning Form Comment: Won maiden well in comeback run. Takes on much stronger today.

Saturday 14th December 2019
Kenilworth Racecourse

 Race 1- 12:10
1200m – Maiden Plate

11 – Maitland Magic
Trainer: Brett Crawford
Jockey: Corne Orffer
Wgt: 60.0kg
Draw: 5 (15 Runners)
Predicted Betting: 5/1

He pulled up a little shin-sore after his very encouraging debut effort, when running third over the same course and distance. This is a common trait with horses that are still a touch on the immature side. Having backed off his work for week after that debut, the stable advise that he has come back into full training with a ‘spring in his step’ and his work has been good. From a similar draw, he will be expected to make natural improvement on his first outing. With that in mind, we expect him to finish in the money and he gets a good place chance with a reasonable win chance. See a clip of his final workout below.

Winning Form Comment: Raced green on debut when showing good speed. Would have gained from the experience and is a big runner.

Sunday 15th December 2019
Hollywoodbets Scottsville

Race 10 – 12:10
1000m – Barrier Trial

7 – Scoot Over Hogg
Trainer: Darryl Moore
Jockey: Athandiwe Mgudlwa
Wgt: 58.0kg
Draw: 7 (9 Runners)

She has taken a lot longer than expected to get going in her career, but she is finally starting to look like the filly we imagined she would turn into. She has really matured well over the spring and this outing will be used to tune her up for her debut outing in a few weeks. Athandiwe Mgudlwa jumps aboard to guide her down the straight, for her first outing at a racecourse and she is expected to relish the experience.

Race 1 – 12:40
1100m – Royal Natal Carbineers Association Workriders Conditional Grad.

3 – Agent Murphy
Trainer: Alyson Wright
Jockey: Andile Ngcobo
Wgt: 62.0kg
Draw: 3 (14 Runners)
Predicted Betting: 7/1

He disappointed last time out and that can be best described as an inexplicable outcome, when finishing 8-lengths back. That was when stepping back up to the 1400m and things just didn’t go to plan for this son of What A Winter. He has been a difficult horse to gauge as far as his ideal distance is concerned and we now revert back to the sprints where he has produced his best efforts to date. Back at Hollywoodbets Scottsville, where he won his maiden at the 2nd time of asking and we expect him to make big improvement here. He does have a big weight to carry, but with his credentials in mind he should give a much-improved account of himself and he gets a firm place chance.

Winning Form Comment: Disappointing latest. Won maiden on this course. Has a chance on best form.
