She was one of the best looking fillies on the sale, out of a book of 343 horses on auction.

She comes from a super strong female line which has produced the likes of:
• Heir Apparent – winner of the SA Guineas (Gr1)
• Nightingale – winner of the Kenilworth Majorca Stakes (Gr1)
• Athina – winner of the SA Fillies Classic (Gr1)

Her sire Oratorio, is one of the top stallions globally and has produced multiple Gr1 winners around the world including Beethoven and Mourinho. He was Champion 2 year old colt in France and Champion 3 year old colt in Ireland.

She was broken in around June / July 2018 and thereafter went straight into training.

Updates – Purple Nkanyezi

May 5th, 2021
She ran a good race when finishing second behind Simply Russian over 1400m. She did over race which may have cost her in the closing stages. She is in a very good space and there should be more to come from her. See the replay here.

The daughter of Oratorio closes off the meeting in fine style at Hollywoodbets Greyville this afternoon giving the Syndicate a double on the day. She was put into the perfect position by Luke Ferraris and pounced at the right time. Well done to trainer Garth Puller and the breeders Drakenstein Stud.

Purple Nkanyezi finally lands her well-overdue second career win today, after bolting to victory in the third race at Hollywoodbets Greyville, under a calm and collected performance by jockey Raymond Danielson. Well done to trainer Garth Puller and breeders Drakenstein Stud.

With the change of tactics, it was a much-improved performance from this filly today. She seemed to be far more comfortable with the room on her outside. Jockey Luke Ferraris was determined in his suggestion that the blinkers will aid her in challenging with more intent as she was inclined to not want to finish off her run. See the replay here.

She was caught on the rail early on and seemed to be intimidated by the horses on her outside. This is clearly due to the unfortunate experience she had in her 4th start, when hitting the rail. We may opt to take her handy next time out, to avoid the traffic and that may result in some improvement.

A winning debut for this smart filly, by Oratorio. Well done to all the connections concerned. Incidentally, her win brings up our 150th winner since the Hollywood Syndicate started back in 2002. That was a trip short of her best and she showed plenty of speed to get the job done. She looks promising.

Previously named Lady Boulogne, she has been renamed Purple Nkanyezi after our Hollywoodbets mascot – Inkanyezi. After a solid barrier trial a few weeks ago, she has her debut tomorrow night and despite the fact that she will need the run, she should give a good account of herself first up. Final Field below:

A positive start to her career – Lady Boulogne showed plenty of speed in her Barrier Trial today. She is still very soft and nowhere near ready for her debut, but this certainly gives us an idea of what to expect when she does step out in a few weeks. See the replay below:

A smart daughter of Oratorio, she has grown into a beautifully balanced filly. Being by Oratorio, we are taking our time with her as this family seems to get better with time. She should have her debut before the end of the season, but at this stage of her career she is coming along very nicely.

February 11th, 2019
We have made the decision to move Lady Boulogne to Durban, before her career starts. This was a strategic decision that falls in line with what we are looking to achieve with our horses. KZN has always been a happy hunting ground for the syndicate and we are looking forward to seeing this filly at either Greyville or Scottsville in future.

Update on our filly LADY BOULOGNE:

She has started to lose her baby fat and is maturing into a nice strong filly, typical of Oratorio off-spring.
