We were expecting a better performance from him last Friday night, when slow into stride at the start. From then on, he was always playing catch up and never really got into the race. He returns to the same track this Wednesday, but this time he drops back to his preferred 1000m trip. Drawn well, he’ll be expected to jump on terms and from a prominent position throughout, he is expected give a much better account of himself this time. Hopefully Jason Gates would’ve overcome a hand injury he suffered at track last week, as he knows this son of What A Winter well. If all goes to plan this time, we expect him to finish in the first three.

He returns from an 18-week absence from the course and lands a plum draw for his return. His work has been very good at home and the in-form S’manga Khumalo takes the ride. As is mandatory for this son of Seventh rock, he will be looking to find a prominent early position and should be involved in the finish, if not too in need of the run.
