We return to Hollywoodbets Greyville Turf with four more runners on Sunday 25 October 2020. Mighty Smart (pictured) looks well set up to build on his current form and should be our best winning chance on the day. See more here.
Sunday 25th October 2020
Hollywoodbets Greyville
Race 5 – 15:00
2000m – Soccer Any15 Merit Rated 69 Apprentice Handicap
10 – Mighty Smart
Trainer: Paul Lafferty
Jockey: Luke Ferraris
Wgt: 56.5kg
Draw: 10 (16 Runners)
Predicted Betting: 7/1
He is starting to show signs of finding the winners enclosure now, having dropped to a competitive mark of 64. The form of his last two starts has worked out relatively well and he now drops slightly in class for this Apprentice Handicap. With a useful record at this course, Luke Ferraris now takes the mount and if able to settle just behind the leading line at the off he should have a massive chance of winning this. It is worth noting that the stable are very confident of a big performance despite the draw.
Winning Form Comment: Best MR:82. 3rd in latest against stronger and looks a massive threat.
11 – Bhakka
Trainer: Darryl Moore
Jockey: Kabelo Matsunyane
Wgt: 59.0kg
Draw: 11 (18 Runners)
Predicted Betting: 20/1
He looks held by Mighty Smart on that last performance, but with just the 8 career outings under his belt he still has more to come. He has been finishing just off the leading line in recent times, but finds another wide barrier to overcome and he doesn’t seem to have the gate speed to find a useful position in these situations. If he does manage to find some luck in running, he should give a useful account of himself but may require a slight drop in ratings before he finds the winner’s enclosure again.
Winning Form Comment: Best MR:74. Trapped wide in latest on poly. Dropping in the ratings, can improve.
Race 9 – 17:20
1200m – Hollywoodbets Bright Future Merit Rated 68 Apprentice Handicap
5 – Alphamikefoxtrot
Trainer: Darryl Moore
Jockey: Kabelo Matsunyane
Wgt: 57.0kg
Draw: 5 (16 Runners)
Predicted Betting: 7/1
He drops back to a 1200m after showing signs of looking for more ground and the switch to the turf is another factor that may make this a little tough. Kabelo Matsunyane jumps aboard this time and he knows this son of Var well, having won his maiden on him back in December 2018. From a useful draw we’ll be hoping to see him regain his gate speed and if jumping on terms he should give a decent account of himself, but the winners’ enclosure may be out of reach at this stage.
Winning Form Comment: Best MR:66. May prefer the poly, but don’t ignore.
9 – Binary Star
Trainer: Alyson Wright
Jockey: Cole F Dicken (-2.5kg)
Wgt: 61.0kg
Draw: 9 (14 Runners)
Predicted Betting: 25/1
He seems to have lost his form in recent months but has his peak run back after a short lay-off and the stable are hopeful that the drop back to 1200m is the catalyst for improvement. The wide draw won’t make it any easier so from off the pace we’ll be looking to see him make steady progress in the concluding stages. Having dropped significantly in the ratings he should start to find his best form soon but we’ll have our eyes set on the minor placings for now.
Winning Form Comment: 3rd run after rest. Best MR:91. Poor last two runs. Slow starter and needs to recapture best form.
