Upcoming Mid-Week Runners: Wednesday 12 February 2020 and Thursday 13 February 2020

With the postponement on last Saturdays Turffontein meeting to this Wednesday evening 12th February, we now have 8 mid-week runners to follow. On the back of another winner over the weekend, when Kings Road went start to finish in the 2nd race at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Sunday, we will be looking to add to the three winners we have had this month so far. See more about our runners chances below.

Wednesday – 12 February 2020
Hollywoodbets Greyville Poly Track

Race 5 – 15:00
1000m – Greyville Convention Centre MR 68 Handicap

8 – Not Now Pussycat
Trainer: Gary Rich
Jockey: Billy Jacobson
Wgt: 57.0kg
Draw: 8 (9 Runners)
Predicted Betting: 10/1

She has her first start in the Hollywood Syndicate silks, having been purchased at the recent MGAS Horses in Training sale. Now stabled with Gary Rich, she has her first run for the yard and this will be a bit of an educational outing for her. With that said, we don’t anticipate that she will need this too badly and she should give a relatively good account of herself.

Winning Form Comment: Ex Kotzen G S-2019.11.29. First run for new stable and can improve.

Race 6 – 15:35
1400m – Durban View Restaurant MR 91 Handicap (F&M)

14 – Purple Nkanyezi
Trainer: Garth Puller
Jockey: Reserve Runner
Wgt: 53.5kg
Draw: *
Predicted Betting: 20/1

She is the second reserve runner in her race and that will mean that two withdrawals will be required for her to take her place at the start. She is coming along nicely and if she does run, we will be expecting her to go much closer, with this trip being over 1400m. She has a handy galloping weight to shoulder and that will count massively in her favour. On her natural progression alone, she deserves plenty of respect.

Winning Form Comment: Held by Numbers 7 & 9 on her last start but carries light weight and can improve.

Wednesday – 12 February 2020
Turffontein Standside

Race 1 – 15:25
1160m – Maiden Juvenile Plate (Fillies)

4 – Bahlebonke
Trainer: Clinton Binda
Jockey: Jeffrey Syster (-2.5kg)
Wgt: 60.0kg
Draw: 16 (16 Runners)
Current Betting: 66/1

This Pathfork filly has her debut here and despite the fact that we are expecting a positive showing, she will need to strengthen up and this will be a nice opportunity for the stable to give her a test to see where they are with her.

Race 2 – 15:55
1160m – Maiden Juvenile Plate

11 – Phinda Mzala
Trainer: Clinton Binda
Jockey: Jeffrey Syster (-2.5kg)
Wgt: 60.0kg
Draw: 9 (18 Runners)
Current Betting: 20/1

He gave a very good account of himself on debut, in arduous circumstances. Travelling between the 250m and 100m markers, Phinda Mzala was carried out significantly by a horse called Magic Blaze, which shifted out continuously away from the crop. Despite this, the former managed to get going again and he ran on nicely in the closing stages. He now steps up slightly in trip and if finding a smooth passage this time, we expect him to go a lot closer to winning and he should have a nice each way chance.

Winning Form Comment: Made eye-catching late progress on debut. Will enjoy the extra distance on offer and should improve.

Race 6 – 18:13
1000m – Tommy Hotspur Handicap (Grade 3)

11 – Look To The Sky
Trainer: Clinton Binda
Jockey: Jeffrey Syster
Wgt: 52.0kg
Draw: 7 (13 Runners)
Current Betting: 16/1

He is a very speedy sort, now having his toughest test to date in a field of very talented sprinters. With that said, we expect him to ping the gates and find a relatively handy position early on. From gate 7, he should be able to track over towards the better going on the day and if apprentice Syster manages to let him settle, he will certainly be in with a shout. There is a lot that needs to go in his favour in this class of opposition, but we are optimistic that he can find the first 3.

Winning Form Comment: Won latest with ease. Meets a competitive field, but don’t ignore.

Thursday 13th February 2020
Vaal Turf

Race 1 – 12:40
1200m Workriders Maiden Plate

18 – Zig Zag
Trainer: Clinton Binda
Jockey: ReserveWgt: 60.0kg
Draw: 9 (18 Runners)
Predicted Betting: 50/1

He has been relatively disappointing in all four starts so far, but the blinkers seemed to help last time out and he travelled a lot better. They will be fitted once again and we hope for further improvement.

Winning Form Comment: Showed some improvement in a work-riders race last time. May have more to come.

Race 2 – 13:10
1000m – Juvenile Plate (Fillies)

8 – Purple Shadow
Trainer: Clinton Binda
Jockey: Jeffrey Syster (-2.5kg)
Wgt: 60.0kg
Draw: 3 (11 Runners)
Predicted Betting: 14/1

This Jackson filly has just started to get going and she will thus need the run first up. It will be used as an opportunity to see where the stable are with regards to her progression and the outing should bring her on nicely.

Race 3 – 13:40
1000m – Juvenile Plate

5 – Mahambayedwa
Trainer: Clinton Binda
Jockey: Jeffrey Syster (-2.5kg)
Wgt: 60.0kg
Draw: 1 (11 Runners)
Predicted Betting: 20/1

He lines up in a race full of debutantes, but his work has been good enough for him to give a decent account of himself first up. With that said, the winner of the race should come from one of the three raced runners.
