Four more runners step out for the Hollywood Syndicate at Hollywoodbets Greyville, this Wednesday 23rd September 2020. It’s the second time the Durban racecourse plays host to local racing this week and we’ll be hoping for some success. See more here.

Wednesday 23 September 2020
Hollywoodbets Greyville Poly

Race 2 – 13:05
1400m – Saddlers Arms Maiden Plate

8 – Maitland Magic
Trainer: Brett Crawford
Jockey: Anton Marcus
Wgt: 60.0kg
Draw: 8 (12 Runners)
Predicted Betting: 5/2

His work has been very good for a maiden, coupled by the fact that the maiden form in Cape Town is probably stronger than the local equivalent. He will be fitted with a set of blinkers here, as jockey Anton Marcus feels he is a little bit reluctant to go past horses when asked. Having had four gallops in the lead up to this provincial debut he is probably as fit as the stable could have him without having a trial or a race.

There is a bit of form in the race but if he takes to the poly and brings some of his Cape form to the track he should be very competitive here.

Winning Form Comment: Rested 14 wks. Gelded 2019.12.17. Blinkers ON. Best MR:75. First run in KZN. Blinker strike and Marcus up.

Trainer comment: I couldn’t be happier with him heading into Wednesday’s race. He is as fit as I can have him without having a run. I think we should be positive from the draw & try to dictate. He doesn’t have much of a gear change so he may be able to pinch it turning in. The blinkers I am sure will assist.

Race 6 – 15:30
1000m – Follow Gold Circle On Facebook Merit Rated 94 Hcp (F&M)

5 – Candy Galore
Trainer: Gareth van Zyl
Jockey: Warren Kennedy
Wgt: 61.0kg
Draw: 5 (10 Runners)
Predicted Betting: 3/1

Having won her first start under the Hollywood Syndicate ownership at Hollywoodbets Scottsville, she now returns to the Hollywoodbets Greyville Polytrack where she has a very useful record. Distance suited, she lands a very useful draw and this speedy mare looks perfectly placed to run another very big race. Warren Kennedy retains the ride and she’ll be one of the leading contenders at the business end.

Winning Form Comment: Best MR:96. 1000m specialist. In form for Kennedy and can follow up.

Trainer comment: She is doing very well. Her best form is at Hollywoodbets Scottsville but expecting a big run from her.

Race 7 – 16:05
1200m – Sea Cottage Merit Rated 69 Handicap

10 – Uncle Charlie
Trainer: Garth Puller
Jockey: Ashton Arries
Wgt: 59.0kg
Draw: 10 (12 Runners)
Predicted Betting: 7/1

He gave a solid account of himself last time out, when returning to racing after a 20 week absence. That was over his preferred trip of 1400m and he now drops back to the 1200m which should be a touch on the sharp side. Ashton Arries takes the mount this time from a very tough draw, but if finding a bit of luck in running he will be running on strongly late. Off his current rating of 67 he deserves plenty of respect at this level and must be a solid each way prospect.

Winning Form Comment: Rested 10 wks. Best MR:84. Good latest on poly over seven furlongs. Must be included in all bets.

Trainer comment: Is doing well but could find it a bit short. He is in to run a week later over a mile which he should prefer.

11 – White Cedar
Trainer: Cliffie Miller
Jockey: Lyle Hewitson
Wgt: 61.5kg
Draw: 11 (12 Runners)
Predicted Betting: 4/1

He has dropped to a very competitive rating and appears to be finding some very threatening form since returning to racing in early June. Having opted for front-running tactics in his last two starts, he may have no other option but to repeat this move from a tricky draw. With a bit of luck in running and with Lyle Hewitson regaining the ride, he has a useful each way chance in this class of opposition.

Winning Form Comment: Ex Wright A J-2020.06.01. Best MR:79. Dictated terms well in last two runs on poly. Chance if overcomes wide draw.

Trainer comment: Very well. Top weight but will go close.
