This is the Soft Falling Rain filly. She is from the same family as Calming Influence who won the Godolphin Mile, Media Puzzle who won the Melbourne Cup and Rich Tapestry who was a champion in Hong Kong.
Cape Cross is her damsire and he needs no introduction producing Sea The Stars, Golden Horn and Ouija Board to name a few. His record as a damsire is just as good, producing over 30 horses with ratings higher than 100 and reaching as high as 127.
Updates – Blessed Rain
May 7th, 2020
Blessed Rain was officially retired on the 7th May 2020. Her last race was on the 21st March 2020. She ends her career with a record of 6 runs, 0 wins and 1 place.
May 10th, 2019
After a very encouraging debut when running third, she was reported coughing in her next start and clearly hadn’t fully recovered in her latest effort. She is above average and we have decided to put her away for the next few months to let her fill out a bit more. We really feel that she will blossom as a 3 year old and that is most likely when we’ll see her next.
February 27th, 2019
Blessed Rain had her second grass gallop today, although still a touch green she put up a nice workout and she will have one more gallop before her first official outing in a few weeks.
January 31st, 2019
This daughter of Soft Falling Rain is doing very nicely at home and we couldn’t be more pleased with her progress. She will be put through the pens in two weeks time and we’ll look to give her a debut outing towards the end of February.
29th November, 2018
She has done tremendously well over the spring and her work is currently showing that of an above average filly. The below clip is of a workout earlier in the month, followed by another clip of her walking in the yard. She moves very well and should be ready for her first start by autumn next year.
9th October, 2018
Initially when she arrived she had lost a bit of condition, but she has since put that back on and his feeling on what she has shown him so far is that she is well above average. Stuart Pettigrew has 22 two year old fillies and she is by far the most progressive, according to him. He also feels that she won’t take forever to get going and should see her first start around March / April next year. That could fit in perfectly with the feature races, if she is as good as he says she is.
7th September 2018
She has been broken in and has already joined up with Stuart Pettigrew in JHB.
Although she didn’t seem to winter very well, since arriving in Johannesburg she has settled in nicely and Stuart Pettigrew has reported that she has a very nice action and she is starting to put on some weight. I think she is going to be a very nice filly come summer.
She will more than likely take a bit of time and with a quality looking, well bred filly like her – we are more than willing to be patient with her.
