PURPLE PERSUASION is a new addition to the Hollywood Syndicate, purchased recently at the 2018 KZN Yearling Sale (Lot 249). This bay filly is a daughter of Master Of My Fate, out of the dam Music Pass (Go Deputy), and was bred by Ndoro Stud. Read below to learn more about this horse.
Name: Purple Persuasion
Named By: Hollywoodbets I-Branch Team
Sex: Bay Filly
Sire: Master Of My Fate
Mare: Music Pass (Go Deputy)
Breeder: Ndoro Stud
Trainer: Peter Muscutt
Purchased: KZN Yearling Sale 2018
Pedigree: View here
Bred by Ndoro Stud, this is a filly by the exciting young sire Master Of My Fate, out of the Go Deputy mare named Music Pass.
This filly is from the same family that produced champion broodmare Akinfeet, who went on to produce the likes of CAPETOWN NOIR (champion miler in 2014 including with earnings of over R2.7million and wins in the Queens Plate Gr1, Investec Cape Derby Gr1 and the Cape Guineas Gr1) and ACROSS THE ICE (11 time winner / placed 33 times with earnings of over R1.1million and wins in the August Stakes Gr3 to name a few).
She may take a bit of time as she will more than likely grow into a decent sized filly, but we are more than happy to wait and see what she has to offer in terms of ability. It certainly looks as if she has plenty to come.
She is another very exciting filly to add to our string and having started off her career with Alyson Wright. Having moved to the Brett Crawford stable in KZN, under the watchful eye of assistan trainer Peter Muscutt, she will remain under his care as he goes it alone.
Updates – Purple Persuasion
January 8th, 2021
Purple Persuasion, near side, working this morning. She runs on Wednesday 13 January in a FM 84 handicap over the Hollywoodbets Scottsville mile, with Donavan Dillon aboard. She will race in earmuffs for the first time and go to the start with a pony after playing up before her last start. This should ensure that she keeps composed in the preliminaries. She meets a field with a lot of form on paper but if she repeats her penultimate effort where she ran way above her rating she should be the one to beat.
December 14th, 2020
Purple Persuasion clearly ran way below her ability yesterday. Lyle Hewitson said she got herself really worked up behind the barriers and with the delayed start things just got worse. He said she ran her race before they even loaded and it’s best just to put a line through her run. See the replay here.
She has come through her most disappointing effort yesterday in good order. Her run is best ignored. She works in earmuffs everyday at home which helps keep a lid on her. Up to now she has behaved behind the barriers, but at her next engagement she will race in the earmuffs. We’ll drop her back to a mile next time out.
December 11th, 2020
Purple Persuasion completing her prep for her race on Sunday 13 December. She has had a good lead up to her race, with her work being solid all the way through. A repeat of her last start, when finishing in 3rd and having run way above her rating, will see her being competitive over this 1750m trip.
December 9th, 2020
Purple Persuasion, near side, finishing off her work this morning. She runs on Sunday 13 December in a FM 84 Handicap over 1750m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville Racecourse. Lyle Hewitson rides, jumping from gate 10 of 10. The stable can’t fault her work and physically she looks great.
She ran way above her rating in her last start and under normal weight conditions this Sunday, she is the horse to beat. She finished strongly in her last start, indicating the step up to 1750m on Sunday will suit.
November 22nd, 2020
Although only running third, she has raised her game again and defied the handicapper to be beaten 1.8l under very unfavourable weight conditions today. Fortunately there are no penalties for plate races she won’t be penalised for her 3rd place. Under normal handicap conditions in her next start she should be very hard to beat. See the replay of her run here.
November 14th, 2020
Purple Persuasion finishing her gallop off strongly last Saturday. She runs on Sunday 22/11/20 in a Graduation fillies plate over 1600m on the Hollywoodbets Greyville poly. Jabu Jacobs rides, jumping from an ideal 2 draw.
She has bounced back well after her enforced quiet time post AHS vaccine and appears to still be on the improve. Although the graduation is probably not the ideal race to run in, on handicap terms, she is in good form and deserves to take her chance from the good draw.
October 21st, 2020
Purple Persuasion landed her 2nd career win this afternoon in the 5th race at Hollywoodbets Greyville. This is her 2nd run back after injury, so she is only starting to reach her true potential now. Well done to the Brett Crawford Stable, jockey Jabu Jacobs and breeders Ndoro Stud. This filly has been through a lot this year and we are delighted to see her back to her best. See the replay here.
October 18th, 2020
Purple Persuasion completing her preparation for her run on 21 October 2020. She continues to go forward and tighten up, but physically speaking she is still holding onto her condition. With that said she has made a lot of improvement since her comeback run and the stable feel that she will improve again after Wednesday’s race but will be forward enough to make significant improvement on her first start effort.
October 14th, 2020
Far side, galloping this morning. She has progressed really well since her first run back and although the stable don’t think they have quite got to the bottom of her yet, she is tightening up well and her work this morning was very pleasing. She is engaged to run on 21 October 2020 with Jabu Jacobs booked to ride. Although marginally under sufferance at the weights, with the claim she will be better weighted at this handicap level.
September 4th, 2020
After suffering a freak accident towards the beginning of this year, which almost cost her her life, we are delighted to announce that Purple Persuasion is back in training and due for a comeback run in the next few weeks. Seen here, working upsides with Maitland Magic and finishing the stronger of the two. She has joined up with the Brett Crawford stable and seems to be doing better than ever.
October 30th, 2019
A good comeback run by this filly today. Although we were expecting her to finish in the first 3, she was not disgraced in 4th and Anton Marcus reported that she “needed the run badly.” Probably more than we initially expected. Considering the winner finished behind her the last time they met, she is certainly going to come back with interest. Replay below:
October 28th, 2019
She makes her handicap debut this Wednesday 30th October 2019, on her return to racing after a solid campaign as a two year old last season. She has thrived during the spring and this run has come on the back of some exceptionally good track work in recent times. Drawn in the middle, Anton Marcus takes the ride and he will be looking to bounce her out to settle just behind the early leaders. If not too in need of the run, she has the ability to win a race like this and we expect to see her go very close to doing so. Final Field below:

A seriously unlucky loser today, but what an effort to come back in the closing stages and put in a big challenge. Lots more to come from this daughter of Master Of My Fate. See the replay here.

She has done well since leaving the maidens last time out. We think that she is slightly above average and she will be aimed at the BSA breeders’ race on July day. She may have a prep run before then, if time allows. Here is another looks at her convincing win to leave the maidens last time out, ridden to victory by Lyle Hewitson.

Purple Persuasion wins a nice race for us today, beating a winner in the process. Well done to Trainer Alyson Wright, Jockey Lyle Hewitson and the Breeders Ndoro Stud.
January 27th, 2019
Purple Persuasion, had no luck in running on her official debut (relay below) but will relish having the experience under her belt. She’ll be one to follow next time.

PURPLE PERSUASION ran in her first barrier trial at Greyville on Sunday. Watch the replay here:
December 19th, 2018
Purple Persuasion will run in her first barrier trial on Sunday 23rd December 2018 at Scottsville (Race 10) over 800m. This is a good opportunity to see her in action and she will gain a lot from the experience. She should have her first official run on the 30th December, where there will be R80 000 prize money for first place.
She has grown into quite a smart filly and we have been very impressed with the way she has handled every challenge thrown at her to date. With this being a barrier trial, we will just be looking for jockey Stuart Randolph to guide her through it and let her learn from the experience. With that said, we believe she will be nice enough to follow early on in her career.
Interestingly, her half-sister (Espressivo) won her last start in PE, taking her career record to 10 runs: 2 wins: 2 places, with a stakes tally of over R100 000.

This is your filly. I went to see her earlier today, in Mooi River where she is currently living on a spelling farm. This is basically a facility where they are broken in by teaching a them to wear a saddle for the first time and listening to commands.
She is not at that phase yet as we are letting her mature and grow more. She spends most of her days out in the paddocks and the conditions in Mooi Rover are ideal for making them into tough horses. Big variances in the daily temperatures at this stage of a horses life, strengthens their immunity to face the demanding routine once they come into full training. The ground is also as hard as a rock and this strengthens their bones while they grow.
Unfortunately she suffered a bit of a set back yesterday, while she was in the paddock. One of the other fillies kicked her in her stifle and you can see the haematoma on the photo. That is a part of growing up as a young 2 year old and these sort of bumps and bruises toughens them up. I have asked them to x-ray as a precaution, just to make sure that there isn’t a bone chip that may have come loose as that could cause major issues later on in her career.
She will come into full training at Summerveld (Hillcrest) in a few months, where we will go and see her. She is a very smart, strong filly, with lots of muscle definition in her shoulder and hind quarter. She looks like a typical sprinter / miler (1200-1600 meters being her range). Her pedigree suggests the same.
