IBUTHO was purchased by the Hollywood Syndicate at the 2019 KZN Yearling Sale. He is a colt by Duke Of Marmalade, out of the Western Winter mare Stormin Cat. The second foal out of this mare, he is bred by Lammerskraal Stud.
Named By: Amadoda VIP
Sex: Bay Gelding
Sire: Duke Of Marmalade (IRE)
Mare: Stormin Cat
Damsire: Western Winter (USA)
Breeder: Lammerskraal Stud
Trainer: Alyson Wright
Purchased: KZN Yearling Sale 2019
Pedigree: View here
An angular colt with plenty of scope, he is from the same family that produced champion sire WESTERN WINTER. In fact he is in-bred to Chilly Hostess who produced the former. Bred for 10 furlongs, he will have all the time he needs to mature.
The name IBUTHO, translated from IsiZulu into English, is a regiment or group of warriors. A perfectly fitting name, considering that he will be representing our Amadoda VIP Security Team who named him.
UPDATES – Ibutho
August 30th, 2021
He was returning from an 11-week break over 1900m on the polytrack at Hollywoodbets Greyville today. He raced from a handy position, but showed signs of needing the run in the home straight. He will come on from the outing and there should be improvement from the son of Duke Of Marmalade in his next start. See the replay here.

Ibutho goes back to back, when picking up his 2nd career victory in the 6th race at Hollywoodbets Greyville today. Ridden by Kyle Strydom, trained by Alyson Wright and bred by Lammerskraal Stud. It was great to have the Amadoda VIP Team on course to watch him in action and lead him into the winners’ enclosure.

Ibutho lands his maiden victory in his 5th career start, when winning the 3rd race at Hollywoodbets Greyville Racecourse today, under a smart ride by Anton Marcus. Well done to Alyson Wright and breeder Lammerskraal Stud.
October 12th, 2020
He gave a fair account of himself in the first race at Hollywoodbets Greyville today. Travelling well through the 400m mark, he became a little once paced in the closing stages and stayed on well for 2nd.
June 11th, 2020
Now that he is ready for his debut, he has been nominated and accepted to run this Saturday 13th June.
Unfortunately, he has since picked up an elevated temperature which renders him ineligible to run. He was in any case, an unlikely starter here, due to his 3rd Reserve Runner status. With that said, he has been one of the more promising 2-year old colts / geldings we have with the Alyson Wright stable, so he should be a contender when he does get his chance.

This son of Duke Of Marmalade has settled in well and is certainly enjoying his time on the farm. He is still a bit backward, but time is on his side and he will have a few more months to allow him to progress at his own pace.
July 8th, 2019
He has just arrived at Leckhampton Farm, where he will spend the next few months maturing before he is broken in.
