SIHAMBA SONKE was retired by the Hollywood Syndicate on the 8th February 2021. She had 5 unplaced races.
February 22nd, 2020
Having tested positive for a virus (Encephalosis) towards the end of January, she was severely affected by the condition and at one stage we thought we may lose her. A severe temperature resulted in her being treated around the clock for a number of days and she surprised all of us by shaking this off after receiving treatment. A very classy filly, Duncan Howells has correctly opted to back off of her for a few weeks, to ensure that she is completely asymptomatic before resuming with her program. A minor setback in the greater scheme of things, we are on track to see her debut towards the middle of winter.

We have moved this filly to Robbie Dawson’s spelling operation for the final phase of her spelling career. She has continued to flourish in the past month, since arriving and we couldn’t be happier with the way she is going. She still needs a bit of time and we will look to bring her in towards the end of January.

As mentioned in our previous post, she has flourished over the early parts of spring. An athletic mover, she has a great walk on her and after another 6-8 weeks on the farm, she will be due to come in to full training. See a recent photo of her below:

Currently being spelled by Jane Thomas at Far End Farms, she is likely to take a bit of time. However, she has come a long way since arriving off the sale in late January and we expect her to flourish during the spring.
