The Hollywoodbets Life After Racing programme exists to honour the horses that have carried our colours and our dreams on the track. The programme provides world-class rehabilitation, retraining and rehoming for Hollywood Racing-owned thoroughbreds once their racing career ends.
Caring for Our Horses Beyond the Finish Line
Based at the Ashburton Training Centre and led by equine specialist Nicole Wille, the programme provides world-class rehabilitation, retraining and rehoming for Hollywood Racing-owned thoroughbreds once their racing career ends — or when they need time to recover before returning to racing.
Our Mission
To ensure every Hollywood Racing horse is given the opportunity for a healthy, meaningful and secure life after racing, whether that future is on a farm, in a new equestrian discipline, or back on the track after successful rehabilitation.
What We Do
1. Rehabilitation & Recovery
- Full veterinary assessments, physiotherapy and tailored recovery plans
- Therapies include shockwave treatment, PEMF, bodywork, balanced groundwork and conditioning
- Many horses have been successfully rehabilitated and returned to racing stronger and sounder
2. Retraining for Second Careers
- Once physically ready, horses are assessed for suitability in disciplines such as dressage, showing, hacking, jumping or pleasure riding
- Training focuses on calmness, responsiveness and building confidence in their new environments
3. Responsible Rehoming
- To date, 58 horses have been safely rehomed through the programme
- Each adoption includes a formal agreement ensuring the horse’s ongoing welfare
- Hollywood Racing retains a right-of-return to ensure no horse ends up in an unsafe home

Thoroughbreds retire young, often with many healthy years ahead of them. Life After Racing ensures that these athletes — who have given so much — continue to live with purpose, dignity and proper care. The programme also reflects Hollywoodbets’ commitment to transparency, welfare, and responsible ownership across the racing industry.
