Upcoming Weekend Runners: Saturday 22 February 2020 – Sunday 23 February 2020

We have a number of runners who should be fighting out the finish in their respective races this weekend. The horses that stand out include Maitland Magic, who has his 3rd career outing in Race 1 at Kenilworth, Jozi Hustle and Chief Officer who should fight out the finish in the first Race at Hollywoodbets Greyville and Ralph The Rascal (pictured) who returns for his handicap debut after that scintillating maiden victory three weeks ago. See more about their chances and our other runners here.

Saturday 22 February 2020
Turffontein Standside

Race 2 – 13:05
1160m – Maiden Juvenile Plate

7 – Phinda Mzala
Trainer: Clinton Binda
Jockey: Nooresh Juglall
Wgt: 60.0kg
Draw: 9 (14 Runners)
Current Betting: 20/1

He has his third career start here and gets the services of Nooresh Juglall this time, who is more than capable at finding the winners enclosure. The son of Philanthropist is strengthening up with each run and he has plenty of scope for more improvement. He has his second start over the 1160m, after that very encouraging debut run when making good headway in the closing stages and if he is let go at the right time, he should finish well.  We expect him to earn another stake cheque here, with a useful each way chance.

Winning Form Comment: Two fair runs produced. Is held by number 11, but can earn a cheque.

Race 4 – 14:15
1000m – Maiden Plate

1 – Blow Me Down
Trainer: Clinton Binda
Jockey: Nooresh Juglall
Wgt: 60.0kg
Draw: 11 (12 Runners)
Current Betting: 5/2

He has been knocking on the door of the winners enclosure for some time, since returning from that 21 week absence in November last year. Back over the course and distance where he finished third in his only outing so far and he gets the services of Nooresh Juglall this time around, from gate 11. He still has scope for further improvement and on his decent work at home, he has a solid each way chance once again.

Winning Form Comment: Decent recent form over this distance. Merits respect.

10 – Masterofmydestiny
Trainer: Clinton Binda
Jockey: Chase Maujean
Wgt: 60.0kg
Draw: 6 (12 Runners)
Current Betting: 50/1

He showed very little in that debut effort recently and we have thus decided to go back to the drawing board with him. As such, he drops in trip for his second outing and we’ll be looking for any sort of improvement.

Winning Form Comment: Had breathing issues on poor debut. Drops to the minimum trip and needs to improve.

Saturday 22 February 2020
Kenilworth Racecourse

Race 1 – 12:50
1200m – Maiden Plate (3 Year Olds)

10 – Maitland Magic
Trainer: Brett Crawford
Jockey: Corne Orffer
Wgt: 60.0kg
Draw: 11 (11 Runners)
Current Betting: 22/10

He picked up a slight issue with his back towards the middle of January and after receiving treatment, he is doing a lot better. He has his first run after gelding now and his work at home has been very encouraging. With the scope for big improvement and the form line of his latest effort proving to be quite strong, he should be a very big runner in this company and we give him a nice winning chance.

Winning Form Comment: Disappointing latest when favourite. Has been gelded since and is a big runner.

Sunday 23 February 2020
Hollywoodbets Greyville Polytrack

Race 1 – 12:40
1000m – Maiden Plate

1 – Jozi Hustle
Trainer: Clinton Binda
Jockey: Warren Kennedy
Wgt: 60.0kg
Draw: 1 (7 Runners)
Predicted Betting: 15/10

He has shown plenty of speed in his last two starts on the Highveld, over this 1000m trip and he now returns to KZN for his second outing over this course and distance. Champion Jockey elect, Warren Kennedy, picks up the mount and if showing the speed he has shown recently, on this surface, he should be tough to beat from a plum draw.

Winning Form Comment: Showed plenty pace in last two starts when runner-up. Ready to shed maiden tag.

2 – Chief Officer
Trainer: Alyson Wright
Jockey: Tristan Godden
Wgt: 60.0kg
Draw: 2 (7 Runners)
Predicted Betting: 2/1

He has had a slight issue with his near fore hoof where a small crack developed causing him some discomfort. He seems to be over that and now has his peak run after that 37 week absence from the course last year. Drawn well, Tristan Godden takes the mount and we expect him to be fighting out the finish with our own horse, Jozi Hustle, who looks the one to beat.

Winning Form Comment: Cherry-ripe and finished close-up in both c & d starts.

Race 7 – 16:10
1400m – Sea Cottage MR 90 Handicap

7 – Ralph The Rascal
Trainer: Alyson Wright
Jockey: Ashton Arries
Wgt: 52.0kg
Draw: 7 (9 Runners)
Predicted Betting: 4/1

He was very impressive last time out, when winning with consummate ease at only the second time of asking. The way he quickened was super impressive and he now returns to the same course and distance for his handicap debut. With only 52.0kg to shoulder, his rider on that occasion will be forced to watch from the side lines but we have a lot of faith in Ashton Arries who picks up the ride this time.

Despite the fact that he faces tougher now, the test will give us a good indication of where we are with this son of Gimmethegreenlight (AUS) and with the expected scope to come we expect him to finish in the first three places.

Winning Form Comment: Handicap debut. Progressing nicely on this surface and shoulders light weight.

Race 8 – 16:45
1200m – Hollywoodbets Bright Future MR 69 Handicap

5 – Agent Murphy
Trainer: Alyson Wright
Jockey: Tristan Godden
Wgt: 59.5kg
Draw: 5 (15 Runners)
Predicted Betting: 10/1

He is starting to look rather threatening as he drops further in the ratings and off his current mark of 74, he looks well handicapped in this field. From a plum draw, he will be ridden a little more patiently this time and the expected quick tempo is going to really suit his turn of foot.

Having only raced over this course and distance on one occasion prior to this when finishing second, he should give a very good account of himself and we expect to see him finish in the top 4 places with an outside winning chance.

Winning Form Comment: Is 1.5kgs better off with number 7 on latest.
