Upcoming Weekend Runners – Flamingo Park – Saturday 3rd August 2019 & Hollywoodbets Scottsville – Sunday 4th August 2019

We have two more runners to look out for this weekend. Winter Twilight attempts a rare hat-trick of wins when he travels to Kimberley on Saturday 3rd August 2019 and Mighty Smart looks set for a nice chance at leaving the maidens at Hollywoodbets Scottsville, on Sunday 4th August 2019. See more here.

Saturday 3rd August 2019
Flamingo Park

Race 4 – 13:55
1300m – MR 72 Handicap

5 – Winter Twilight
Trainer: Clinton Binda
Jockey: Muzi Yeni
Wgt: 58.0kg
Draw: 2 (14 Runners)
Predicted Betting: 2/1

He attempts a hat-trick of wins today, after following up his maiden with another victory on handicap debut. Both of those wins have been on the Hollywoodbets Greyville Poly and now he turns to a completely different surface, that being the Flamingo Sand course. As far as his sand work at home is concerned, he appears to be an even better horse on this surface which certainly adds a bow to his string. The minor concern would be the slight step up in trip to the 1300m, having never been this far before. However, he won well over 1200m last time out and on that run we are a little more inclined to believe that he will get the trip. From a very useful draw, he should be able to find his customary handy position and if settling early on, he’ll be right there at the finish. We give him a solid place chance in a competitive handicap, with a fair win chance if things go his way.

Winning Form Comment: Makes local debut after winning two on the bounce. Drawn well, but trip a slight concern.

Sunday 4th August 2019
Hollywoodbets Scottsville

Race 4 – 14:05
1600m – Maiden Plate

11 – Mighty Smart
Trainer: Paul Lafferty
Jockey: Keagan De Melo
Wgt: 57.0kg
Draw: 11 (12 Runners)
Predicted Betting: 5/2

He has given a good account of himself in both starts so far, but he was realistically always going to be looking for more ground. Sired by Archipenko, who was himself more affective over 2000m and being out of a Smarty Jones mare – Smarty Jones having won the Kentucky Derby (2000m) and Preakness Stakes (1900m), all things point to him relishing the mile this time. He has a tricky draw to negate, but the plan will be to position him in a slightly more handy position this time. He is in a good place at the moment and his work at home suggests that he is in with a very good winning chance. With some luck in running from that draw, we give him the nod for the winners box.

Winning Form Comment: Thereabouts in both starts and bred for this step up in trip. Chance if negating tricky draw.
