Upcoming Weekend Runners: 11th – 12th January 2020

The Hollywood Syndicate has five runners to follow this weekend and we’ll be looking for a few good performances from our runners. Winter Twilight returns on Saturday 11th January 2020, on the Turffontein Standside track before we turn our attentions to four runners who step out at Hollywoodbets Greyville, on Sunday 12th January 2020. See more about their chances here.

Saturday 11th January 2020
Turffontein Standside

Race 8 – 16:55
1160m – MR 80 Handicap

8 – Winter Twilight
Trainer: Clinton Binda
Jockey: T. Juglall (-2.5kg)
Wgt: 57.5kg
Draw: 1 (18 Runners)
Predicted Betting: 14/1

He has battled with a bit of soundness issues in recent times and as such, Clinton Binda has backed off on his work. He has been freshened up for this run, but this will be more of a stress test to see how he handles being back in a high intensity environment. For this reason, he’ll just be having a run and we’ll be hoping for a safe return for this son of What A Winter.

Winning Form Comment: Fair last two starts. Can run into the minor money.

Sunday 12th January 2020
Hollywoodbets Greyville Poly

Race 1 – 12:45
1000m – Maiden Plate (Fillies)

3 – Gail Force
Trainer: Alyson Wright
Jockey: T. Godden
Wgt: 60.0kg
Draw: 3 (11 Runners)
Predicted Betting: 10/1

After a fair debut we have decided to drop her back to the minimum trip for her second career outing. That debut run was a great learning curve for her and she has come on nicely from that run. She is loaded with ability, but she has a very hot temperament and the way she handles herself prior to the run will be key to her performance. As with her debut run, she will be led down to the start by a lead-pony and if all goes to plan she will be expected to show good improvement here. The form line of her debut run has held up well, with two contenders having since come out and won. From a good draw, Tristan Godden takes the mount and she has a good each-way chance.

Winning Form Comment: Fair debut over six furlongs. Tries minimum trip and has scope.

Race 2 – 13:20
1000m – Durban View Restaurant MR 79 Handicap

4 – Alphamikefoxtrot
Trainer: Darryl Moore
Jockey: S. Khumalo
Wgt: 53.5kg
Draw: 4 (11Runners)
Predicted Betting: 4/1

He gave a solid account of himself last time out, when overcoming gate 8 on the Turf. Back on his preferred surface this time, he lands an improved draw and S’manga Khumalo retains the ride. He seems to be in a good place at the moment and with the weight off his back this time, he’ll be right there once again. He shouldn’t miss the first three places and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him find the winners’ enclosure.

Winning Form Comment: Performing well at this rating. Runs well for Khumalo and enjoys the poly.

Race 5 – 15:05
1600m – Greyville Convention Centre MR 68 Handicap

10 – Jerry The Juggler
Trainer: Alyson Wright
Jockey: T Godden
Wgt: 57.5kg
Draw: 10 (15 Runners)
Predicted Betting: 20/1

He has taken a while to get going after his rest, but he has been dropping steadily in the ratings and he is starting to look competitive off his current mark of 63. He steps up to the mile for the first time in his career and the more sedate tempo over the extra ground should really suit him. Drawn a little wider this time, he will be looking to settle just off the early speed and with the scope for further improvement he can run a place.

Winning Form Comment: Yet to feature in the handicaps but dropping rapidly in the ratings. Could improve.

Race 8 – 16:55
1400m – Hollywoodbets Bright Future MR 79 Handicap

8 – White Cedar
Trainer: Alyson Wright
Jockey: J Gates (-1.5kg)
Wgt: 58.5kg
Draw: 8 (15 Runners)
Predicted Betting: 20/1

He needed both of his comeback runs quite badly, but showed good improvement in his latest effort, when stepping back up to his preferred trip of 1400m. Jason Gates rode him in his penultimate start and he picks up the ride from a reasonable draw, once again. He likes to race handy and with a bit of luck in running, he should settle just behind the first line of horses. With this being his peak run back, further improvement is expected and the son of Bold Silvano should find the first three places with an outside win chance.

Winning Form Comment: Grey likes to race handy. Drops in class and should finish closer.
