Upcoming Midweek Runners: Hollywoodbets Greyville Polytrack and Vaal Turf

After landing 6 winners last month, the Hollywood Syndicate will be looking to build on that record and kick of the month off March with a good start. We have a few runners with outside chances this week and hopefully one or two can surprise and find themselves in the winners enclosure. See more about what we expect here.

Wednesday 4th March 2020
Hollywoodbets Greyville Polytrack

Race 3 – 14:05
1400m – Maiden Plate

7 – Scoot Over Hogg
Trainer: Darryl Moore
Jockey: Athandiwe Mgudlwa
Wgt: 60.0kg
Draw: 7 (12 Runners)
Predicted Betting: 33/1

She was very disappointing in her recent barrier trial and it would be fair to say that she has shown little since. The run is going to be a test to see if she has any ability, but she won’t be worth following at this stage.

Race 4 – 14:40
1400m – MR 69 Handicap

13 – White Cedar
Trainer: Alyson Wright
Jockey: Reserve Runner
Wgt: 61.5kg
Draw: 13 (15 Runners)
Predicted Betting: 10/1

He hasn’t been completely disgraced since returning from a rest back in November and he is now fast approaching a rating where he is expected to be very competitive. He is doing well at home and his work is coming along nicely. With his Reserve Runner status, we will be hoping for a withdrawal from one of the carded runners in order for him to take his place at the start. If that is the case, he will be expected to give a very good account of himself and a top 4 finish is likely.

Winning Form Comment: Front-runner, shoulders hefty weight but takes a notable drop in class.

Race 5 – 15:20
The short Head FM 75 Handicap (Fillies and Mares)

1 – Arctic Princess
Trainer: Glen Kotzen
Jockey: Sean Veale
Wgt: 57.0kg
Draw: 1 (13 Runners)
Predicted Betting: 7/1

She was given a masterclass ride by Anton Marcus last time out, where he read the race perfectly and opted to get moving on her long before any of the other contenders. That was over a trip short of her best and the blinkers certainly helped. Now in handicap company, she lands another plum draw the extra furlong is going to suit her down to the ground. Although she faces tougher now, she has come on nicely since that maiden win and we expect her to be in the thick of things once again. Sean Veale takes the mount and a top 4 finish can be expected.

Winning Form Comment: Drawn pole for handicap debut. Blinkers worked last time. Respect.

Race 7 – 16:33
1200m – Greyville Convention Centre MR 97 Handicap

2 – Binary Star
Trainer: Alyson Wright
Jockey: Yuzae Ramzan (-4kg)
Wgt: 52.0kg
Draw: 2 (10 Runners)
Predicted Betting: 7/1

He has now slipped 5-points in the ratings which coincides with his improved form since his return from that rest in December last year. With an already handy galloping weight, apprentice Yuzae Ramzan claims another 4kg’s off his back and from a plum draw he will have a reasonable chance of going right into contention at the business end. With the above in mind, he’ll be expected to finish in the first three.

Winning Form Comment: Not disgraced last time when raced wide. Faces stronger but respect.

Thursday 5th March 2020
Vaal Turf

Race 3 – 14:25
1200m – Maiden Plate

4 – Zig Zag
Trainer: Clinton Binda
Jockey: Sherman Brown
Wgt: 60.0kg
Draw: 5 (14 Runners)
Predicted Betting: 33/1

He is strengthening up with each of his runs and the blinkers are certainly helping. Sherman Brown retains the ride and with the scope for further improvement in mind, he can feature in what appears to be a weak maiden. With that said, the van Vuuren trained Duchess Of Windsor should be tough to beat so we’ll be hoping for a top three finish.

Winning Form Comment: Has shown some improvement in last two starts. Can earn a cheque in this field.

10 – Masterofmydestiny
Trainer: Clinton Binda
Jockey: Craig Bantam
Wgt: 60.0kg
Draw: 7 (14 Runners)
Predicted Betting: 33/1

He showed some improvement last time out, when having the tongue tie fitted for the first time. The drop in trip would’ve helped his cause as well and like the stable companion above, he should have scope for further improvement. With that said, we’ll be happy with a top half finish from this son of Master Of My Fate.

Winning Form Comment: Showed some improvement last time. Back over the extra and needs to show more to feature.
