Not only was he impeccably bred, but Archipenko had the talent to go along with it.

He began his career under the guidance of legendary British champion trainer Aiden O’Brien, winning the Gr2 Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial in 2007 in just his 4th start. But it was in 2008, as a 4 year old, where he really seemed to thrive having been transferred to another champion trainer in the form of Mike De Kock.

By the end of the season he recorded 3 wins and 2 places in just 6 starts, ending it off with a scintillating victory in the QEII Cup (Gr1) at Sha Tin. Archipenko didn’t stop there, returning to the UK to win the Summer Mile (Gr2) at Ascot before raiding in the USA and running 2nd in the Arlington Million (Gr1).

Before his career came to an end, he added one more Group victory by winning the Zabeel Mile Gr3) at the 2009 Dubai Carnival.

At stud, Archipenko was based at Lanwades Stud in Newmarket in England, however he was successfully shuttled to Argentina where he sired last years winner of the Gran Premio General San Martin (Gr1) – Forty One (ARG). While he was there, he managed to sire 3 other Gr1 winners.

Back in the UK, he was soon off the mark by producing the Gr1 British Champions Fillies and Mares winner Madame Chiang (GB). Before it was all over he was responsible for Time Warp, a Gr1 winner and the highest rated horse in Hong Kong earlier this year.

Unfortunately, he met an untimely end in December last year (2017) according to Lanwades owner Kirsten Rausing, “he had a brief illness due to a rare, rapid and aggressive lymphoma. This is a fatal but non-infectious condition that is, sadly, untreatable.”
